On October 12th, the 19th China Ocean (Shore) Engineering Symposium, sponsored by Chinese Ocean Engineering Society and organized by Chongqing Jiaotong University and Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute, officially opened in Chinese Entrepreneur International Conference Center of Chongqing. More than 300 experts and scholars in the field of ocean engineering, including Academician Zeng Hengyi and Academician Li Huajun of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Soonchul Kwou of the Ocean Society of Korea, gathered to exchange the achievements of academic research and their experience of technical application. Besides, they discussed the frontier of ocean (shore) engineering research, and shared and promote the latest achievements in related fields.
Conference Information
Zeng Hengyi, the President of the Chinese Ocean Engineering Society, Deputy Chief Engineer of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, analyzed the development trend of ocean engineering in the future and many frontier issues that need to be explored and studied, and looked forward to the opportunities, challenges and bright prospects of building our country into a “maritime power”. Furthermore, he fully affirmed the important role of Chongqing in the economic development of the central and western regions, saying that “The Yangtze River links Chongqing closely with ocean engineering” and hoped that academic circles of Chongqing will make due contributions to the development of China's ocean engineering.
Wang Pingyi, the Vice President of Chongqing Jiaotong University, delivered a speech and introduced the basic situation of the university to the participate in the conference. During 68 years of education, Chongqing Jiaotong University has inherited and carried forward the “the Spirit of Two Roads” and made contributions to the construction of a transportation power. Marine scientific research is an important part of promoting the strategy of Marine vessels. We hope that through the convening of this academic seminar, we can further promote the concern, understanding and management of the ocean, and provide stronger technical support and intellectual contribution for China to build itself into a maritime power. Moreover, he wish the academic seminar a complete success. Professor Dou Xiping, chief engineer of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute and secretary general of Ocean Engineering Society, delivered the work report of the society to review the work situation and achievements of the society in the past year and prospect the future work.
After the opening ceremony, four experts gave a keynote report on issues related to ocean engineering technology. Li Huajun, the Vice President of Ocean University of China, delivered a report entitled “Urgent Needs and Opportunities for Ocean Engineering Science and Technology”, deeply analyzed the current situation of ocean engineering science and technology in the industry, and put forward systematic and in-depth thinking on how to build an “A Maritime Community of Shared Destiny”. Prof. Soonchul Kwou presented a report in English entitled “The Importance of Tidal Energy and the Technology Required”, proposing an innovative question about the efficiency of turbine capturing tidal energy and the direction of research. “Analysis on Stability Prediction of Ocean Long-distance Pipeline” written by Gao Fuping, professor of the Institute of Mechanics of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the winner of the National Outstanding Young Scholar, prospected the development of the interface evolution of deep-sea soil and long-distance pipeline structure, the evolution of deep-sea sediment and the establishment of ocean engineering in accordance with the deep water conditions of the South China Sea. Prof. Wang Pingyi, the Vice President of the Chongqing Jiaotong University, the first batch of national candidate of “New Century Talents Project”, made a report on “the Study on Effect Mechanism of Landslide Surge on Navigation Channel”, and mainly introduced the main results of research, including the effect of landslide surge on wharf, mooring, anchoring and ships, digital simulation and visualization, assessment system.
In addition to inviting the above four experts and professors to give keynote reports, the conference also set up 4 sub-sessions on deep water and offshore engineering, coastal power and coastal engineering, the regulation of estuary and waterway, comprehensive technology and other aspects, with a total of 121 branched reports. After the meeting, a boat trip will be arranged to inspect the container terminal of Cuntan in Chongqing Port, the regulation of the Chaotianmen-Jiulongpo channel and the project of tall slope retaining wall in the Yangtze River. Besides, the conference will also commend outstanding papers and outstanding youth papers, and set up outstanding communication award.
